On the world's biggest stage, it was the Germans who were allowed to wear their all-white home kits while Argentina were barred from their famous stripes. For the first time in the tournament, Argentina wore their blue away kits and they looked superb in action. The gold lettering on the players' backs really stood out from the navy and royal blue shirts just as Argentina did for much of the match. The away side's poor finishing, especially in the first half, would cost them at the final whistle as Germany ran out 1-0 winners in extra time.

Sunday’s World Cup Final match between Argentina and Germany saw the debut of the brazuca Final Rio ball. The new match ball is basically the same exact thing as the brazuca that was used throughout the last month but with a shiny new World Cup Trophy-themed paintjob.

Like much of the rest of the World Cup, the Final was a battle between Nike and adidas. Of the 14 players that saw the pitch for Argentina, seven were in adidas boots, six in Nike, and one in Puma. Germany, on the other hand, had 11 players in adidas boots (Battle Pack colorways and otherwise) and three in Nike’s summer colorways. It was a player in the latter group that scored the game’s only goal. It was Mario Gotze’s late strike that sealed a fourth star for Germany.
