Diego Costa completes Chelsea switch

The Spanish international has signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have completed the signing of striker Diego Costa from Atlético Madrid. The Blues announced that they'd reached an agreement with the Spanish club earlier this month, though now personal terms have been agreed with the striker and a five-year contract has been signed.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Costa said:

”I am very happy to sign for Chelsea. Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and team-mates. Having played against Chelsea last season I know the high quality of the squad I am joining.

“I would like to thank everybody at Atletico who made me into the player I am, it was an incredible time for me, but now I am starting a new adventure and I hope to win many trophies with Chelsea.”

The 25-year-old cemented his status as one of Europe’s best strikers in a prolific title-winning season at Atléti last season, and is just the kind of powerful, direct striker that Blues boss José Mourinho has tended to employ throughout his career. Costa will no doubt slot straight into the Chelsea starting lineup next season, and should prove to be an excellent addition.
