Antonio Conte explains Juventus resignation, addresses Italy job possibility

Antonio Conte has explained his decision to leave Juventus, though refused to be drawn on the possibility of taking charge of the Italian national team.

The prospect of Antonio Conte leaving Juventus is one the club have had to become accustomed to for a while, with speculation over his departure having lingered since last season. However, they probably weren’t expecting to make just a day into their preparations for the new campaign, especially as his contract still had a year to run.

Alas, his departure today means they’re now searching for a new coach at the most inconvenient time possible. Conte went some way to explaining his decision in a video posted on the club’s YouTube channel:

“It is inevitable a prestigious club like Juventus there is an obligation to win. However it is demonstated that winning leads to with the consequences.”

Reading between the lines, that seems to reinforce the report in La Gazzetta dello Sport that states disagreements in the transfer market has led to Conte’s resignation. They claim the coach had been promised Arturo Vidal wouldn’t be sold, though Manchester United have reportedly today had an offer for the Chilean accepted.

Where next for Conte? His stock is no doubt suitably high enough for him to be hired at a pretty big club. However, vacancies at this time of the season are few and far between, and it’s more than possible he’ll take over the Italian national team after Cesare Prandelli’s resignation in the wake of the Azzurri’s World Cup group stage exit. Conte refused to be drawn on this, though, stating he was only concentrating on the present.
