Chelsea have completed the signing of Atlético Madrid's Brazilian fullback Filipe Luís for a reported £20 million. The 28-year-old defender has signed a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge, and becomes the Blues' second signing from the La Liga winners after they finalised a move for striker Diego Costa.

In a statement on the Chelsea website, Luís said:

“This move is a dream come true for me. I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea, and also in the Premier League. I’m very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best for the team during the coming seasons.”

Luís, who will wear the No. 5 next season, will no doubt be an important part of José Mourinho’s starting lineup in the coming campaign. He’ll likely slot straight into the Blues’ first team at left-back, allowing last season’s breakout star César Azpilicueta to shuffle over to his more natural position on the right of the defence.

Chelsea had been in the market for a left-back since Ashley Cole joined AS Roma on a free transfer earlier in the window.
