DaMarcus Beasley is poised to sign with Major League Soccer and the most likely destination right now appears to be the Houston Dynamo. The Washington Post first reported this likelihood Tuesday evening and by Wednesday morning the Houston Chronicle had their own report suggesting the Dynamo were trying to work out a trade to move to the top of the Allocation Order where Toronto FC currently occupies the top spot.

At first glance, the move makes little sense for the Dynamo. In addition to reportedly having little to know salary-cap space, their left-sided players have been their strength. Beasley has primarily been a left back for the United States national team and although he's played all over the pitch for Puebla, the majority of his time has been on the left side. The Dynamo could move Brad Davis to the tip of the diamond and use a midfield featuring Beasley on the left and Oscar Boniek-Garcia on the right.
While that may not address the Dynamo's biggest short-comings -- they've lacked a forward to pair with Will Bruin -- they are likely willing to try almost anything as they are currently on pace for their worst record since moving from San Jose in 2005.
Working out a trade may be easier said than done, of course. Toronto FC is probably not in a position to take on a salary dump and would likely be looking to acquire allocation money in exchange for giving up their top spot in the Allocation Order. But they also aren't in position to select Beasley, especially if he's a Designated Player as expected. If the Dynamo are unable to work out a trade with TFC, they could try an end-around by making a trade with the Columbus Crew, who sit second in the Allocation Order. Of course, the Crew may also be interested in acquiring Beasley for themselves...
