NYCFC expected to announce Frank Lampard signing on Thursday

NYCFC have David Villa, and now they’re set to add Frank Lampard, too.

New York City FC has called a press conference to announce a new signing on Thursday, and everyone expects it to be Frank Lampard. The former Chelsea man has been linked to the club for months, and reports from all over the globe have him finalizing a deal with NYCFC, to be announced Thursday.

Lampard and Chelsea parted ways after last season, leaving the player in search of a new club. Right away, he was linked to an MLS move. The LA Galaxy were rumored to be chasing him for years, and while they do not have a Designated Player spot to offer him, NYCFC do and are stocking up for their expansion season in 2015.

NYCFC begin play in March and have also signed David Villa for the season. The club is owned by Sheikh Mansour, who also owns Manchester City and Melbourne City, and has sent Villa on loan to Melbourne until the start of preseason so he can stay fit. It's possible that NYCFC will do the same with Lampard, who is coming off the World Cup with England, but will need to play matches before next spring.
