No one can accuse Chelsea's away and third kits over the last few years of being boring. While blue is always the color of the club's primary shirt, Chelsea's alternate shirts are often a bit outside of the box. White, blue, yellow, neon green, black, and more have all featured over the last few years but this time around, it's navy blue that features. This is the club's first use of the color since the 2009/10 season when the Blues won the league and the FA Cup.
Chelsea go back to navy blue for first time since 09/10 double with new third kit
The new shirt is somewhat reminiscent of the "bar code" kits that Bolton Wanderers, Koln, and a number of other Reebok teams wore in that same 09/10 season. From the bottom half down, the shirt features a series of light blue vertical stripes that increase in thickness from top to bottom. The graphic is, according to adidas, a representation of a sound wave that "symbolizes the volume of support from the fans at every away game."
The shirt features a v-neck collar that matches the shirt’s navy blue collar while the stripes on the shoulder match the color of the sound wave. The back of the shirt features a light blue strip that runs across the shoulder blades.
The shorts that come with the kit break up the sound wave by cutting sharply from the light to navy blue. The adidas stripes that run up the legs match the light blue color. The socks are also navy blue with a thick band of the lighter color at the top.
