When we took a look at all 32 teams' kits ahead of this past summer's World Cup tournament, it was immediately apparent that the pair of kits that the Netherlands wore throughout the tournament were in the top tier. On our list, they were second, behind France's gorgeous pair, and for good reason. It seems that Manchester City, who have just unveiled their new away kit for the upcoming Premier League season, have learned a thing or two from the Dutch.
Manchester City’s new away kit learns from a Dutch masterpiece

The new kit uses the same template that Australia did for both of its templates and features a dark blue body. Like the uniforms that the Socceroos wore, City's away features a polo collar with a triangular insert at the base. Where Australia's was a contrasting color, Manchester City's is a tonal shade on the overall backdrop of the rest of the kit. Like the Netherlands' away kit, the shirt's overall color fades from a dark blue to a much lighter one. Unlike the one that the Dutch wore, however, City's kit makes use of hoops rather than a series of parallelograms and chevrons.
The shirt is a tribute to City’s 1998/99 season. That season, the Sky Blues beat Gillingham in a Second Division play-off final at Wembley after equalizing with a pair of late goals and winning promotion back to the old First Division. In that match, City wore a dark blue and yellow-striped kit. The 2014/15 kit pays tribute to that with its overall color and use of yellow on the sponsor logos. That continues onto the inside of the shirt with a pennant tab that says “We are City” in yellow type on a blue background.
The kit is completed by dark blue shorts and socks. The socks feature a lighter blue band at the top to carry the theme of the shirt forward.
