West Ham United's new home kit for the upcoming Premier League season features something that the club have done only twice in the last 20 years. The Hammers will once again wear a mostly claret shirt but this time, it will lack the sky-blue stripes that West Ham's kits have become known for.
West Ham introduce 85-inspired home kit for 2014/15 Premier League season
The new adidas home shirt features an almost entirely claret body with thin white horizontal stripes that run from the collar down to the hem. With the stripes come light blue adidas stripes with blue-and-white sleeve inserts and cuff trim as well as a collar comprised of the same colors with an overlapping design. The shirt is matched with light blue shorts and hooped claret and blue socks.
The goalkeeper kit, also unveiled by the club, is based on a template that we have seen plenty of this summer in the World Cup. The primary kit that the likes of Adrian and Jussi Jaaskelainen will wear this season. The home kits is primarily yellow with purple accents and white trim. It's a kit that we will see plenty of in the Premier League as adidas likes to share the template over many of its teams.
Speaking about the new kit, West Ham player Stewart Downing commented:
”I like it - it’s a nice colour and a nice fit. The players are happy with it and hopefully we can get some nice results in it.
“It’s an exciting time when you get the new kit on, get the pre-season underway. The lads are all looking forward to first game of the season and getting off to a good start.”
