Argentina vs. Belgium, World Cup 2014: TV schedule and game time

Argentina and Belgium meet for a spot in the semifinals. Here’s how to watch the match.

Ronald Martinez

Lionel Messi continues to chase the World Cup that so many feel he must win to prove his greatness, as Argentina meet Belgium with a place in the semifinals on the line. Both teams played 120 minutes in their Round of 16 games, so neither will have an advantage from that perspective.

Argentina avoided penalties against Switzerland thanks to a late-minute goal in extra time from Angel di María. Now they must deal with Belgium and their relentless attack if they hope to advance yet again. Head coach Alejandro Sabella will be without left back Marcos Rojo after he picked up a second yellow card in the last match. Jose Basanta is the likely candidate to replace him.

Sergio Agüero is also out injured, but he did return to training during the week with some light running. Ezequiel Lavezzi is expected to start in his place, though Maxi Rodriguez is also available.

Belgium were taken to extra time by the United States, but survived thanks to goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku had struggled in previous games but was outstanding off the bench for Belgium, causing the U.S. defense all sorts of problems as he set up De Bruyne’s goal along with scoring one of his own. Marc Wilmots will now have to decide whether to start Lukaku or keep him as an impact sub off the bench.

Thomas Vermaelen could return from injury, though the combination of Jan Vertonghen at fullback and Daniel Van Buyten as a center back worked extremely well against the USA. Mousa Dembele remains doubtful as well.
