Puma’s new home kit for Reading is an homage to Jack Mansell, who managed the club from 1969 to 1972 and managed to bring the stripes back to the Royals after they spent four years in sky blue kits. While the sky blue would return in the 80s and very early 90s, it would ultimately be the hoops that prevailed.
Reading and Puma unveil 2014/15 home and away kits
Reading’s new kits are a celebration of the death of the club’s sky blue look back in the 1960s
The 2014/15 home kit borrows the template that Italy wore as their home number during what was an unexpectedly short World Cup stay. The shirt features all-white sleeves with small red accents at the cuff. The torso is comprised of four thick, royal blue stripes that span the body horizontally.
The stripes break around the sides of the shirt for another pair of red accents and a thin, white span before continuing to the back of the shirt. Finally, the shirt features the same classy polo collar that Italy wore, except in white. Reading’s new home kit features a pair of white socks and is completed by royal blue shorts. They feature white strips up both sides with red accents.
The away kit uses the same template as the one that Burnley will wear in the Premier League next season. The body is entirely navy blue while the rugby-style collar and piping are both red. The away kit features red shorts that match the piping with navy blue socks to connect the top and bottom.
The primary goalkeeper kit is almost entirely hot pink. The shirt features black accents on the inside of the sleeves as well as a black stand collar with white Puma and sponsor logos.
