Final: Argentina advance to World Cup Final on PKs

The Netherlands and Argentina will play for the right to meet Germany on Sunday in the 2014 World Cup final. Lionel Messi will be looking for a chance to silence the doubters who say he must win a World Cup to be one of the greatest of all time, while the Oranje are still chasing their first every World Cup.

The Dutch could be without striker Robin van Persie who is struggling with a stomach bug, making his availability a doubt that probably won’t be known until much closer to kickoff. The midfield could get a boost though with Nigel de Jong reportedly set to make a surprise return from a groin injury that was supposed to end his tournament. Both Ron Vlaar and Leroy Fer, who’ve been carrying knocks, trained with the team on Tuesday.

For Argentina, Sergio Agüero should be available after recovering from thigh injury, which should give their attack a boost. Fullback Marcos Rojo will return as well after serving a yellow card accumulation suspension in the quarterfinals. Angel di María is definitely out with a thigh injury, but could come back for the final if Argentina advances.

This if the first meeting between the two nations at the World Cup since a scoreless draw in 2006.
