Neither side will be at full strength as City and the Gunners meet in English football’s annual curtain raiser.

Arsene Wenger is expected to play Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, two of his big mony summer signings. Calum Chambers should be available as well, but David Ospina is out with a thigh injury. The German trio of Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski are not expected to play.
Several City stars including Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Fernandinho and Vincent Kompany are not expected to play, but new signings Wily Caballero and Fernando could get time.
The Gunners have won the shield 12 times in their history, most recently in 2004 when they defeated Manchester United 3-1. City last won the shield in 2012 with a 3-2 win over Chelsea, the fourth in their club history.
