The BBC are reporting that Mancester United had submitted a €20 million bid for Argentine defender Marcos Rojo. The 24-year-old has spent the last two years at Sporting Lisbon in Portgual, and had a strong showing during this summer’s World Cup. Let’s take a look and see if this rumored signing would make sense for United.
Manchester United linked to £16m defender
Louis Van Gaal is reportedly after Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo to bolster his defense.

Why it makes sense
Louis Van Gaal is in need a central defense option to held solidify his back line. Rojo just might be the perfect fit, especially if the new United boss stick with his 3-5-2 formation. Rojo is capable of playing both centrally and at left back, which would make him an ideal candidate to play on the left side of a three man back line. Add to that the fact he’s young, and more than talented enough to play the position.
Why it doesn’t make sense
There’s not much about this potential deal that doesn’t make sense. It very well could come down to an issue of money and whether or not Rojo wants to make the switch to the EPL. If Sporting decide that don’t need to sell Rojo and dig their heels in on the price, there’s always a chance he becomes too expensive, even for United. Van Gaal has already spent a ton of money, and while United have deep pockets, he may not want to overspend on Rojo if he feels there are other targets available.
Likelihood it happens
We’re giving this possible signing a solid 7 our of 10 chance of happening. Rojo fits a specific need for United, he shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, and Sporting Lisbon may find it tough to turn down United’s money. Sporting know that United need a defender, so they could play hardball about the price if they want.
