Bayern Munich are pretty thin in defense at the moment, and they might have just gotten a lot thinner. Javi Martinez has been substituted out of the DFL-Supercup match against Borussia Dortmund with a left knee injury.
Javi Martinez injury: Bayern Munich defender hurts knee in DFL-Supercup
Bayern Munich might be without midfielder/defender Javi Martinez for a while after he suffered a serious-looking knee injury.

Martinez tried to get on the end of a set piece in the 28th minute of the match, but collided with a Borussia Dortmund defender and landed awkwardly. He made no attempt to continue the match and was quickly substituted, with Dante replacing him. After Bayern trainers examined him, he was put onto a stretcher and looked to be in distress as he was carried down the tunnel.
While everyone’s hoping for the best, it doesn’t look good for Martinez. Generally, it’s a bad sign when trainers do a test for potential ligament damage and then decide to put a player on a stretcher and strap their leg down.
Bayern are currently playing with a three-man defense. That means that they need one more central defender than usual, but they're a bit short. They only have three true defenders on the roster in Dante, Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber. The last of which is currently trying to get back to full fitness after two years out injured. This means David Alaba is playing out of position at central defense, so Pep might have to change his plans going forward if Martinez misses significant time.
