The new Navy soccer uniforms look pretty standard and straightforward. It’s a blue shirt with gold trim, “NAVY” across the chest and a number. But if you look closer, there is something unique about the numbers -- the Navy’s battles are listed.

The Cuban Missile Crisis, Kosovo, Pearl Harbor and Coral Sea are among the battles listed.
The military academies are not like any other colleges in the United States. They really do serve the universities, and the universities serve the military. There is no separating one from the other.
The men and women who play for Navy will be in the military, possibly in battle. Now the battles that those before them fought will be on the soccer pitch with them.
