After being handed a fortunate Champions League reprieve after their previous qualifying round opponents Legia Warsaw fielded an ineligible player, Celtic should be even more determined to prove they have what it takes to make their mark in Europe’s top club competition. But first, the Scottish champions have to qualify for the group stages.
Maribor vs. Celtic: Lineups
The lineups are out for Celtic’s Champions League playoff first leg against Slovenia’s Maribor.
They take on Maribor in the first match of their two-legged playoff, with the Slovenian PrvaLiga reigning champions hosting. After their scare at the hands of the Polish outfit, Celtic should be wary to avoid a slip-up against their less prestigious opponents.
The Bhoys line up in a 4-5-1 with Anthony Stokes leading the attack. Maribor go a little more attacking with their two-man strike force, with Agim Ibraimi playing in support of No. 9 Tavares.
Maribor (4-4-2): Jasmin Handanovič; Mitja Viler, Marko Šuler, Aleksander Rajčevič, Petar Stojanovič; Damjan Bohar, Amir Derviševič, Željko Filipović, Dare Vršič; Agim Ibraimi, Tavares.
Celtic (4-5-1): Craig Gordon; Emilio Izaguirre, Virgil van Dijk, Jason Denayer, Mikael Lustig; Jo Inge Berget, Stefan Johansen, Beram Kayal, Charlie Mulgrew, Callum McGregor; Anthony Stokes.
