Hull City sign defender Michael Dawson

The Tigers have added some depth to their central defense with the signing of Dawson from Spurs.

Hull City announced the signing of defender Michael Dawson from Tottenham on Tuesday via Twitter. The 30-year-old veteran has been with Spurs since 2005, making 237 appearance for the club. While no official statement has been made on the fee, reports have said it could be as high as £8 million.

Dawson was clearly not part of new Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, and the team had reportedly been shopping the defender around this summer.

The signing gives Hull City and Steve Bruce an experienced central defender with years of service in the Premier League as they look to remain in the top flight for the second straight year. He could also give them some depth in the Europa League should the Tigers come back from a 1-0 deficit against Lokeren in their playoff round tie.
