Malmo take Champions League lead on crazy 35-yard volley

When the ball pops up to you 35 yards from goal, you’re not supposed to volley it at goal. Thank heavens Magnus Eriksson did.

Mark Runnacles

Malmo had taken a 1-0 lead in the second leg of their Champions League playoff, but were still level on aggregate, 2-2. So Magnus Eriksson decided to fire from 35 yards on the volley.

It was an absurd try. And it went in.

Eriksson somehow managed to connect, loop it over the goalkeeper and find the back of the net. Why he didn’t walk off the pitch right then and there is still a mystery. There is no way he will ever top this.
