Borussia Dortmund vs. FC Augsburg: Time, TV schedule and game preview

Sascha Steinbach

After dropping the opening match of their Bundesliga season 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday, Borussia Dortmund will be looking to notch their first three points of the season as they travel to the SGL Arena, where a Friday clash with FC Augsburg awaits. Augsburg are fresh off a 2-0 loss to Hoffenheim in Matchday 1 as well. After not scoring against a Hoffenheim side that leaked goals like a sieve last year despite outshooting them, Markus Weinzeirl's side will be looking to make a statement that their offseason rebuild is up to snuff for the Bundesliga.

Key player - Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Marco Reus makes this entire Borussia Dortmund team sing. After a poor performance last week saw him complete less than 80% of his passes and concede 4 turnovers, the 2013/2014 Bundesliga Player of the Year needs to get back in the groove or Dortmund will struggle, even against a side like Augsburg.

Key matchup - Marwin Hitz vs. Ciro Immobile

The 24-year-old Italian striker was the leading scorer in Serie A last season. With a fantastic nose for goal, and a continuing integration into this Dortmund side, he has to be the main goal threat if Dortmund are going to break down Augsburg. His role becomes even more critical in front of goal with Reus still working his way back from injury. Opposing him is the Augsburg goalkepper, Hitz. His performances are crucial given the massive rework of the Augsburg side over the summer transfer window. If Augsburg are to have an chance in this match, Hitz has to stand on his head as we saw him do so many times last season.

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

Out: Marcel Schmelzer (hamstring), Adrian Ramos (knee), Dong-Won Ji (groin), Ilkay Gundogan (fitness) In doubt: None.

FC Augsburg injuries and suspensions

Out: Markus Esswin (knee), Jan Moravek (ACL). In doubt: None.

With Adrian Ramos and Ji Dong-Won still sidelined with injury, the only striker on Jurgen Klopp's roster is Immobile. While the Italian international had a rough game out in his Bundesliga debut, not having any alternate options on the bench could be a serious issue if Augsburg can play staunch team defense like last season.

Match Date/Time: Friday, 8:30pm local, 2:30pm ET

Venue: SGL Arena, Augsburg, Germany

TV: GOLTV (USA/Canada), BT Sport 1(UK), Sky Go Deutschland (Germany)
