Bafetimbi Gomis was at Olympique Lyon, racking up goals and drawing the interest from other clubs in Europe. One of those was Swansea City, who he eventually signed for. And when he made the move to England, he had to learn about his new club and new teammates, so what did he do?

Football Manager has the answer to anyone’s football-related questions.

He played with Swansea in Football Manager, of course.
“Before I signed here, I spent a month playing as Swansea to help me get to know my team-mates – to find out a bit more about them,” Gomis told The Guardian. “Of course, I also watched video footage to see how the team played, but it is true that the game helped me learn a lot about each of my team-mates’ characteristics – their age, where they used to play and their attributes.”
It took all of three matches for Gomis to get on the scoresheet, finding the back of the net against Rotherham United in the League Cup this week, so Football Manager paid off.
Gomis is an admitted huge Football Manager fan, saying he plays it all the time when the team travels. And seeing as clubs are reportedly now using the game to help scout players, learning about your teammates from the game couldn’t be too bad.
Video games are the future present.
