Shinji Kagawa rejoins Borussia Dortmund, signing from Manchester United

Shinji Kagawa’s horror stay at Manchester United is over. He is back at Borussia Dortmund.

Shinji Kagawa is back with Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder, who starred for BVB before moving onto Manchester United, has been sold back to the German club in a move that he hopes will reignite his career.

Borussia Dortmund confirmed the deal, which comes the day before the transfer deadline. Manchester United will reportedly get €8 million for Kagawa, which is about half of what they paid for him two years ago.

Kagawa was supposed to be an impact signing at Old Trafford, having torn apart the Bundesliga, but he never found his feet with the Red Devils. He struggled right away, and the reasoning most gave was that he was being played out wide and out of position. But he didn’t fare much better centrally. Simply, he never played well there, and having three managers in a little over two years there probably didn’t help.

It got so bad for Kagawa that he wasn’t even an impact player for Japan. His confidence was at an all-time low this summer and was dropped from the starting XI in one of the World Cup matches.

Now he is going back to the club he played incredibly for, where the same manager is in place, and they are in need of attacking help. BVB have to get more production from their midfield with Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich now, and a midfield of Kagawa and Marco Reus might be just the trick.
