Real Sociedad v. Real Madrid: Final score 4-2, David Zurutuza’s brace leads La Real’s comeback

La Real turned an early 2-0 deficit into a stunning 4-2 comeback victory over Los Blancos

After 11 minutes Real Madrid looked on their way to an easy victory over Real Sociedad. Instead, they conceded four goal over the next hour and suffered a shocking 4-2 loss.

Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale staked Los Blancos to an early 2-0 lead, but after Zubikarai kept La Real in the match with several great saves, the home side’s attack woke up and put four past Casillas, including a brace from David Zurutuza.

Real Madrid wasted little time grabbing a lead thanks to Sergio Ramos and his noggin in the 6th minute. Toni Kroos' set piece delivery from the left side found Ramos cutting across the box and rising over La Real defenders as he headed the ball back across the goal and inside the far post, past a helpless Zubikarai.

Gareth Bale doubled the Madrid lead in the 11th minute after his absurdly good touch allowed him to skate past his marker into wide open space at the top of the box. Zubikarai did his best to get down to cover Bale's low show towards the right, but there was simply to much ground for La Real's keeper to cover.

Real Socidead tried to fight back in the 28th minute but Sergio Ramos was involved again to keep the lead at 2-0. Esteban Granero charged down a bouncing ball in the middle of the Madrid box and uncorked a wicked shot that looked destined for the back of the net. Instead, Ramos came flying across and blocked the shot with a rather impressive flying kick, ending the threat.

In the 35th minute La Real did break through, pulling back within a goal of Madrid. Xabi Prieto glanced on a corner kick from the near post right to Iñigo Martinez who happily fired the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.

Five minutes later the match was tied after David Zurutuza sacrificed his body to direct a header past Iker Casillas to make it 2-2. Seconds after making contact, Zurutuza was erased by Marcelo who's made a desperate attempt to block the shot. The midfielder stayed down for a minute, probably not aware that he'd scored, but he was able to continue.

La Real's comeback continued in the second half as they grabbed the lead in the 65th minute. After getting the better chances for most of the second half, they finally converted when Prieto snuck in behind Dani Carvajal after he jumped out to cover Sergio Canalas. The midfielder returned the ball to Prieto who centered for Zurutuza who got ahead of his marker and directed the ball up and past Casillas.

Carlos Vela secured the points for La Real in the 75th minute after controlling a headed down ball off a corner and blasting the shot into the top of the net to make it 4-2. There were calls from Real Madrid players that he used his arm to bring the ball down, but the referee allowed the goal to stand.
