Fiorentina making one last push for Manchester City defender

Micah Richards is one of a handful of right backs Fiorentina are tracking, and he’s probably the one they’re most likely to sign.

Fiorentina are in need of a right back, and it looks like Micah Richards is their preferred target. Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that they're set to make one last push for the Manchester City defender on deadline day, but that they have alternative targets in mind in case they can't get a deal done.

The Viola have been after Richards for a bit, but haven’t been able to strike a deal. Manchester City are almost certainly willing to sell, but Fiorentina aren’t the only interested party, and might not be willing to offer as much as Premier League clubs. Richards’ lengthy injury history will likely complicate contract negotiations as well, and he hasn’t stated publicly whether or not he’s interested in moving to Serie A.

If Richards can stay healthy, his versatility makes him a great option for Fiorentina. They played with a back four in their season opener, but they’ve played with a back three as well. Richards’ skill set makes him perfect for playing as an outside central defender in back three systems, but he’s played as a center back and right back in a back four as well.
