Tottenham Hotspur have added another midfielder, signing Benjamin Stambouli from Montpellier. The deal is for a reported £4.7 million and will give Mauricio Pochettino the extra body in the center of the pitch that he's been craving.
Tottenham Hotspur sign Benjamin Stambouli from Montpellier
Mauricio Pochettino has been asking for a defensive midfielder and Spurs have gone out to get him one.

Spurs were originally linked to Morgan Schneiderlin, which made sense considering he played for Pochettino at Southampton, but the Saints weren't willing to sell. It looked like Tottenham may not sign another midfielder, but Pochettino insisted he needed one more and that's what he's gotten in Stambouli.
Stambouli gives Spurs another defensive midfielder also capable of playing in center defense when needed, much like Etienne Capoue. Capoue has emerged as Pochettino’s preferred holding midfielder and while Stambouli isn’t as large as Capoue, he does many of the same things. That makes him a good depth option for the club, something they needed with Sandro having been sold to Queens Park Rangers.
Montpellier will be hurting without Stambouli. The 24-year-old Frenchman was vice-captain last season and has been a fixture in their midfield for years. But Montpellier have sold several of their best players in recent years, and Stambouli is just the latest.
