Back when the United States was getting ready to play Belgium in the 2014 World Cup, Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo issued a challenge to President Obama. The Red Devils, of course, won the match and even though Obama never responded to the original tweet, always one with eye toward diplomacy he still came through.

The White House delivered a couple half-cases of Sam Adams to the Belgium Embassy on Friday. Looks like the Octoberfest and the classic Boston Lager. That Obama chose Sam Adams is probably no accident, as its the largest American-owned brewery.

Congrats to the Belgium Team on its World Cup round of 16 win. And thank you for your gracious ... and the excellent Belgian beer. The United States keeps its word, so I hope our friends at the Embassy here in Washington enjoy this case of Sam Adams.
As Americans, we're always grateful for the partnership with our Belgian allies. Except on the pitch. See you in 2018.
