Blas Perez basically scored a run-of-play olimpico

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Blas Perez probably wasn't trying to score this goal. In fact, you can almost guarantee he was surprised as anyone to see this shot find the goal. That said, it's amazing.

Whether it was purposeful or a complete accident, there won’t be many goals scored with a higher level of difficulty this season. Basically, Perez lobs in a hopeful ball from an impossible angle and standing just a few feet from the sideline. It’s the kind of ball that goalkeepers usually grab with little problem. But on this occasion, Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted gets caught completely flat-footed and the ball makes it over his head and somehow bends in. It’s the run-of-play equivalent of an Olimpico.

Perez would add a goal later in the match to give FC Dallas a much-needed 2-1 win over fellow playoff contenders Vancouver.
