Well, that was fun while it lasted. After picking up his third assist in just his fourth appearance for the New England Revolution, Jermaine Jones was forced to leave Saturday's game at halftime with an apparent foot injury. There was no immediate word on the seriousness of the injury, but it doesn't look good.

— Kyle McCarthy (@kylejmccarthy) September 14, 2014 Walking boots don’t automatically mean that there’s a break or something similarly serious, but it does indicate that Jones’ removal was not merely a precaution. In postgame comments, Jones suggested he didn’t think the injury was very serious. He also thought it was something short of an accident that the injury occurred in the first place.
“I don’t know the name of the player [Callum Mallace], but he tried maybe two or three times, without the ball, to kick me,” Jones said. “It’s not nice when you feel like you have players that try to hurt you and this guy tried to hurt me.”
The Revolution have gone 4-0-0 since Jones made his debut, which has allowed them to move back into third place in the Eastern Conference following a stretch of 11 matches in which they claimed just four points.
As long as Jones isn't out for an extended period, the Revolution should be in reasonably good position. The Revs have a five-point cushion on sixth-place Philadelphia Union and have been playing all-around better soccer during their current five-match winning streak. If this proves to be serious, however, any hopes of making a deep run in the playoffs may vanish. Jones has helped settle the defense, while providing a playmaking threat that the Revs had been missing.
