As Manchester United were finishing up their preseason tour of North America, Nike unveiled a two-tone away kit. The shirt featured a blue body with a collar and back half in a darker shade of that blue. The sides of the shirt as well as the shoulders and arms featured red inserts for added contrast. Now, with Manchester City set to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, they'll be getting a new kit that's somewhat familiar.
New Manchester City third kit is bright and based on United’s

The new kit is purple and features a very vibrant shade of purple. The back of the shirt and collar is a darker, more muted shade of the color with the two sides being separated by an extremely bright lime green brand. The shorts continue that pattern down to the socks, which also feature the green band but have the tonal shade represented on the top of the socks.
Describing the new kit, Martin Lotti, Nike Football’s Creative Director, said:
“This half-and-half appearance is a traditional football design, but we added a new twist. We wanted to utilize vibrant color so the kits look brighter at night against the grass and under floodlights. Under a dark sky, these kits will look electric, as if powered by batteries, and will provide an almost electric flash of color on the pitch.”
The kit may well make its debut on Wednesday when City travel to the Allianz Arena to begin what will be a very tough campaign for them.
