UEFA Champions League, Matchday 1: Schedule for the first round of the Group Stage

The Champions League group stages kick off on Tuesday, September 16. Here’s the full schedule of the fixtures on Matchday 1.

Lars Baron

On Tuesday, the Champions League anthem will once again ring out through stadiums around Europe, bringing a tear to the eye of many players involved. To be honest, many fans get choked up as well. But even if you’re a neutral, there’s plenty to find exciting in the Champions League group stages.

The 32 teams involved in this round play their 16 games over Tuesday and Wednesday. That means a choice of eight matches to choose from each day, so there’s bound to be something to titillate. Love a good counterattack? Watch Dortmund take on Arsenal on Tuesday. Prefer a good underdog story? Bulgarian side Ludogorets travels to Anfield to meet Liverpool.

On Wednesday, Manchester City and Bayern Munich meet for seemingly the thousandth time in four years. If you’re bored of that matchup, Zlatan Ibrahimovic takes his PSG side to his old stomping grounds at Ajax. You can also watch and wonder just how many goals Chelsea will mange to put through a frail Schalke defense.
