In a bit of a surprise decision, UEFA have announced that the 2016 UEFA Champions League final will be held at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, better known as San Siro. This marks the first time since 2009 that Italy has hosted the final, and the first time since 2001 that it will be played at San Siro.
San Siro to host 2016 UEFA Champions League final

On first glance, this breaks a bit of a pattern for UEFA. Recent Champions League finals have been played at stadiums that were either fairly new or had undergone serious recent renovations. San Siro is of about average standard as far as upkeep and new features go, and was last seriously renovated in 2002. It became an all-seater stadium in 1990.
UEFA’s probably granted the final to the San Siro with the idea that some upgrades will come before the day of the final. But more important is that the stadium has a ton of seats, a good number of luxury boxes, and is in a major city. Italy was about due for a final and the Olimpico -- which recently hosted -- is the only other suitable stadium, so San Siro it was.
