Europa League scores, Matchday 1: Big wins for, Everton, Inter Milan and Sevilla

Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno

The UEFA Europa League group stage got underway on Thursday, and it was light on big surprises. All of the big favorites to win the competition that played at home were able to pull off wins.

Defending champions Sevilla opened their campaign at home against Feyenoord and pulled off a 2-0 win, while fellow La Liga side Villarreal got a solid result away to Borussia Mönchengladback, drawing 1-1. Gladbach's Bundesliga colleagues Wolfsburg didn't fare nearly as well, losing 4-1 away to Everton.

One of two Premier League sides in the competition, Everton certainly did much better than Tottenham Hotspur, who drew 0-0 away to Partizan Belgrade.

Serie A sides have struggled in Europe recently, but that league's four participants all did well on Thursday. Inter Milan won away to Dnipro, while Fiorentina and Napoli were both victorious at home, over Guingamp and Sparta Prague, respectively. Torino had a tough match on the road, and got a 0-0 draw against Club Brugge.

Here are all the results from the first matchday.
