The two European-participating Bundesliga sides in action during Saturday's early slate looked like they were feeling the affects of midweek action. Schalke were able to grab a draw against Chelsea in Champions League, but they only managed the same at home against Frankfurt. And the big result of the day was in Hamburg, where the league's bottom team managed to hold off Bayern Munich.
Bundesliga scores, Week 4: Bayern Munich drop points against Hamburg

Schalke 2-2 Frankfurt
Frankfurt were up two men at one point in this game, but couldn't take advantage. When it was 11 on 11, they scored twice to take a 2-0 lead, but gave it away quickly. Schalke converted a penalty in the 40th minute, then Julian Draxler scored just after halftime to equalize. Another Schalke goal looked likely until the 61st minute, when Kevin-Prince Boateng picked up a second yellow card. It got worse for Schalke just 10 minutes later when Julian Draxler kicked out at former Schalke man Carlos Zambrano, taking them down to nine.
Instead of taking advantage of that, Frankfurt got a man of their own -- Slobodan Medojevic -- sent off in the 85th minute. They nearly scored a last-minute winner with a 35-yard bomb by Timothy Chandler, but Ralf Fährmann made a save to preserve the draw.
Augsburg 4-2 Werder Bremen
Werder are still winless this season, though they were also undefeated heading into this game and still sit in 12th. Davie Selke put them in front just three minutes in, but things went downhill from there. Augsburg pulled one back in the 14th minute, then won a penalty in first half stoppage time to take the lead. Werder won a penalty of their own in the second half and converted, but fell apart late, with Timo Werner and Tim Matavz scoring to seal Augsburg's win.
Stuttgart 0-2 Hoffenheim
Thanks to Hamburg’s surprise performance, Stuttgart are now the Bundesliga’s bottom team with just one point. Hoffenheim won comfortably, with goals from Anthony Modeste in the first half and Tarik Elyounoussi in the second.
Hamburg 0-0 Bayern Munich
Only four games into the season, Bayern Munich have already dropped points twice. Thinking they could stand to do a bit of rotating against Hamburg, Bayern rested Xabi Alonso, Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski. They were all brought in as substitutes, but they weren’t able to turn the game around, as HSV held on for a point.
Paderborn 2-0 Hannover
Don’t look now, but Paderborn are top of the table! They have the same record as Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim, but with a better goal differential after this win. Their second goal was an 80-yard bomb, scored when Hannover brought their keeper up on a corner.
Mainz 2-0 Dortmund / Full match report
Yikes, Dortmund. Like Schalke and Bayern, they were clearly affected by European football midweek. Jürgen Klopp’s old side were excellent and shot up to 2nd in the table with their win.
