Bundesliga Scores, Week 5: Immobile equalizes late for Borussia Dortmund

The Schwarzgelben salvage a result against Stuttgart as Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha BSC retain their spots at the top of the table.

Alex Grimm

After one of the more enthralling set of results you'll see in the Bundesliga on Tuesday, the Wednesday Encore was lagging in the excitement department. Borussia Dortmund salvaged a result at home, forcing a 2-2 draw with VfB Stuttgart, but have now dropped five points in three home matches this season.

Bayer Leverkusen, the other heavyweight playing today, needed just one goal to down FC Augsburg at home, a theme that occurred many times throughout the day of dullness.

Borussia Dortmund 2-2 VfB Stuttgart

Stuttgart's stark defense held Dortmund out of the box for most of the game. Jürgen Klopp's relentless attackers could not fire their shots past the gloves of Sven Ulreich for much of the game. Stuttgart did not get many chances themselves, but Daniel Didavi took his when he got them. Christian Gentner found Didavi above the 6-yard box for his first, and crucial error from Łukasz Piszczek lead to his second. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was finally able to get in behind late in the match, and Ciro Immobile snuck one inside the right post to level the score.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 FC Augsburg

Leverkusen got a much-needed win to maintain a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign. A half-hour in, Roberto Hilbert cut inside from the right to thread the needle to Heung-Min Son. The South Korea international slotted it far post for his second goal of the season. With rain showering upon them, Augsburg could not get back into the match, more preoccupied with preventing a Leverkusen second than finding an equalizer.

Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 Hamburg SV

Josef Zinnbauer was able to keep Bayern Munich off the scoresheet in his debut, but was not as successful against Mönchengladbach. A series of quick passes found André Hahn free on the right flank, and his cross found the long foot of Max Kruse for the breakthrough. Mönchengaldbach kept the pressure on, firing 20 shots in the match, but could not double their scoreline. Hamburg's struggles offensively continues, as they are still looking through their first goal after six matches.

Hannover 96 1-0 Koln

As far as 1-0 results go, this was one of the more stagnant ones. Joselu scored the only goal of the match in the sixth minute, a right-place-right-time goal that came on an unfortunate deflection off Jonas Hector. The teams combined for just 16 shots in the match, both unable to create anything interesting. The ugly three points for Hannover moves them second behind only Bayern in the table.

Hertha Berlin 1-0 VfL Wolfsburg

Solomon Kalou scores his first goal for Hertha BSC, receiving the ball from Marcel Ndeng for the only goal of the match. Hertha BSC then parked inside the penalty area to limit Wolfsburg’s chances from an equalizer. Wolfsburg sinks deeper into the mid table as Hertha BSC escapes the relegation zone.

Tuesday Scores

Werder Bremen (0-3) Schalke 04

Bayern Munich (4-0) Paderborn

Hoffenheim (3-3) SC Freiburg

Eintracht Frankfurt (2-2) Mainz
