Lionel Messi scores 400th goal of professional career

This Lionel Messi guy, he’s pretty good.

David Ramos

Lionel Messi will go down as one of the best players to ever play the sport. It's probably for things like scoring 400 goals in 535 matches, a mark he hit on Saturday.

It’s somewhat fitting that he scored this goal with his head. For as brilliant as he is with his left foot, and as familiar as we are with him cutting in from the right and repeatedly feinting before scoring, he is remarkably versatile. He does score with his head, and his right foot. He does it all. You don’t score this many goals with one trick.

And he added a second goal later on, just for good measure, to make it 401 goals career goals for club and country.

As amazing as that is, it's not surprising. You're talking about a player who scored 41 goals for Barcelona in a "down year" last season. He is otherworldly.

Congratulations on No. 400, Lionel. We’re sure there are many, many more still out there for you to score and we’ll be celebrating No. 500 before long. Maybe even No. 600. You are that spectacular.
