Dortmund confirm Marco Reus will be out 4 weeks

Lars Baron

Late in Germany’s 2-1 win over Scotland on Sunday night, Marco Reus got tangled up, ultimately coming down hard on his left ankle. It’s the same ankle that kept him out of the Germany World Cup squad, and now it’s come back to bite him once more. Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the injury, announcing Reus will miss four weeks.

Germany will be fine, of course, but this is bad news for Dortmund. Their season got off to a poor start when they fell 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen at home, and they narrowly edged Augsburg in the last round. Their next Bundesliga opponents are Freiburg, Mainz, and Stuttgart, none of which should be too difficult to handle.

However, the Champions League group stages start next week. And once again, BVB have been drawn in the same group as Arsenal. The English side come to town on Sept. 16.

Reus scored five goals in last year’s Champions League. He also put in 16 in 30 league games, while notching 13 assists. It’s no exaggeration that the attacker will be sorely missed over the next month.
