Manchester City have today completed the signing of Wilfried Bony from fellow Premier League side Swansea City. The 26-year-old Ivorian forward has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Etihad. The fee is reported to be around £25m, with the possibility to rise to £28m.

— Manchester City FC (@MCFC) January 14, 2015 Since moving to south Wales from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in summer 2013, Bony has established himself as one of the most effective strikers in the Premier League. He scored 25 goals in total in his first season at the Liberty Stadium, across the league and in Europe, and while he hasn’t been quite so prolific in his second term, he has still picked up nine so far this season.
Manuel Pellegrini’s stated preference is to have four high-class forwards in his squad, and so it appears that Bony will be the replacement for Alvaro Negredo, who left for Valencia in July. He will be eligible to play in the knockout stages of the Champions League, though as he is part of Ivory Coast’s squad for the African Cup of Nations, he won’t be appearing for City in the Premier League until the Elephants are done in Equatorial Guinea.
