Jonas Gutierrez scores first goal since beating cancer

Jonas Gutierrez was diagnosed with testicular cancer last September, but come November, he was in remission. It was fantastic news for the Newcastle United player, who is now working on a return to the pitch.

That return means building up his fitness, which he’s doing with the U-21 team. And on Monday night, he got his first goal since returning.

Gutierrez’s contract with Newcastle expires after the season and it’s not clear if he’s going to get a new one, but that’s a small matter right now.

He’s back, he’s cancer-free and now, he has a goal. Hopefully he has about 100 more left in him. We’re rooting for you, Jonas.
