It has been just about a year since Puma replaced the PowerCat lineup with the all-new evoPOWER range. The first installment in the series, the evoPOWER 1, was a surprise hit that brought with it a number of innovations for Puma footwear that made for a very enjoyable playing experience. The latest generation, the evoPOWER 1.2, aims to improve on everything that the first generation introduced.
Balotelli and Fabregas unveil the new generation of the Puma evoPOWER boot

The new boot brings back the Gradual Stability Frame that limits flexibility toward the rear of the foot while allowing the front a fuller range of motion to provide more power when shooting. The outsole is unchanged from last year and that is most definitely not a bad thing.
The Adaptlite upper is also back with a new AccuFoam insert pattern that covers much more of the boot than it did in the previous generation. The upper also features a printed texture for improved control on the ball that Puma are calling GripTex, which they say “enhances the grip of the ball in both wet and dry conditions.”
It is Liverpool's Mario Balotelli and Chelsea's Cesc Fàbregas who are the main faces for the new release and each had some thoughts on Puma's latest. Speaking about the new boot, Fàbregas said:
“Accuracy is the basis of my game, it’s very important for a midfield player both when I pass and shoot. I love the improvements that have been made to the evoPOWER boot that have an increased focus on accuracy as well as power. Football can be won and lost in small margins, having a boot you believe will help you perform at your best gives you a confidence to perform at your best. I am very happy with what PUMA has done with this boot. ”
Balotelli added:
“The new evoPOWER boots are really impressive. I’ve been testing them for a few a while in training and PUMA has made an already very good boot even better. I can feel the power evoPOWER gives me when I shoot, that’s very important for a striker of course. I’m looking forward to wearing this new boot on pitch.”
The pair were also part of a highly-stylized new ad from Puma that focused on the rivalry between power and accuracy with Thierry Henry refereeing the bout.
The boots will be available in early February but expect to see them on the field in league play ahead of that.
