Dubbed the Hypervenom Liquid Diamond, Neymar’s new boots from Nike are a direct reference to the tattoo found on the player’s left arm. The large diamond has the word “sorella” above it, which is Portuguese for “sister.” Neymar’s sister, Rafaella, has the same tattoo with “fratello” above hers, linking her to her brother.
New Nike Hypervenom special edition for Neymar
The boots that Neymar Jr. will debut celebrate the player’s eighth year as a Nike athlete.
”The diamond tattoo I’ve got was done with my sister. We thought we’d get one done together because diamonds are rare and the feelings I have for my sister are rare, so we decided to pay homage to each other in that way.
“A diamond is a gemstone that is simple but beautiful. It is also a rare jewel that stands out and that is what catches my attention and reminds me of my relationship with Rafa.”
Neymar's new Liquid Diamond boots are the second special edition Hypervenom that Nike have produced for the man, following up on golden colorway that he received halfway through Brazil's World Cup 2014 campaign. Like that golden version, the latest edition features a very shiny colorway that looks as though it was spray painted on. The boots also feature a nod to the gold edition with a tongue in that color.
The Nike logos on the toe and heel feature bright colors that are an apparent reference to Neymar’s personality. Speaking about the release, Neymar added:
“I think they will stand out because of that bright and energetic feeling you get from these boots. I think they have captured my bold and cheerful nature.”
Max Blau, Nike’s VP of Football Footwear, said of the design:
“We take inspiration from Neymar Jr.‘s play and personality. He attacks the defense with a style so fluid, it reminded us of water flowing between rocks. That’s when we started shifting our thoughts from incorporating a nod to diamonds, to creating a liquid diamond aesthetic for the entire upper.”
The Liquid Diamond Hypervenom is up for presale immediately and expect to see Neymar in them on the pitch soon.
