The United States men’s national team’s annual January camp is well underway, with the first of two matches taking place on Wednesday. Instead of playing in the friendly confines of the StubHub Center in Los Angeles, the USMNT has taken the show on the road this time around, and will take on Chile away.

Camp Cupcake is here!

While this camp has been derisively referred to as ‘Camp Cupcake’ in the past, since it usually features very few first choice players, that’s not necessarily the case this time around. A number of USMNT players have come back to MLS, and Klinsmann’s squad features mostly first choice players. Almost all players who play for European club teams are not in this squad, but Bobby Wood and DeAndre Yedlin are present. Wood is trying to secure a move away from 1860 Munich, while Yedlin is playing in Tottenham’s Under-21s to get ready for the Premier League and is not yet in Spurs’ first team.
Even though there are more familiar faces than usual, there’s still the usual plethora of young fringe talents trying to break into the squad. Gyasi Zardes, Wil Trapp, Dillon Serna, Steve Birnbaum, Matt Hedges, Perry Kitchen, Shane O’Neill and Jon Kempin are the players who could make their national team debuts against Chile on Wednesday.
Match date/time: Wednesday, 6 p.m. ET
Venue: Estadio El Teniente, Rancagua, Chile
TV: FOX Sports 1 (English), UniMas (Spanish)
Online: FOX Sports Go and FOX Soccer 2 Go.
