Hugo Lloris could leave Tottenham for Real Madrid or PSG

Could the French international be on the move from White Hart Lane during the summer?

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could be on the move this summer, even if the team manages a top-four finish and earns a spot in the Champions League. This little rumor comes from The Sun (it's behind a paywall), and according to the report, Spurs would demand around £25 million for the French international.

Why this makes sense

While Spurs have come painfully close to qualifying for the Champions League during Lloris' time with the club, they haven't been able to break through. Such is modern football that players, especially the top ones, will eventually desire to challenge themselves at the highest levels of play. If Spurs can't give Lloris Champions League football, and a bigger club is willing to pay the high price for him, it's entirely reasonable to think that the Frenchman would jump at the chance to play for a Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.

Don’t forget that Spurs signed 31-year-old Michel Vorm during the summer to serve as Lloris’ backup. Vorm is extremely talent and has already proven himself capable of being a starter in the Premier League. It’s almost like Spurs knew something might happen.

Why it doesn’t make sense

Surely Spurs leadership wouldn’t decide to sell one of the best goalkeepers in the world just because a club or two comes sniffing around with big piles of cash? It’s not like the club has ever cashed in on a top quality player just because the offer was so ... oh wait, did I just ruin my own defense of why this rumor doesn’t make sense?

Likelihood it happens

It's way to early to make a firm determination on the rumor, but the moving pieces that could potentially be involved make sense. Real Madrid have Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas, but having solid options at a position hasn't stopped them from buying another talented player. Salvatore Sirigu has been solid for PSG, but the chance to sign the French national team's starting keeper would probably be very appealing. Plus, they both have the money.

With all these factors in mind, let’s give this rumor a reasonable 6 out of 10 chance of happening this summer.
