Liverpool will look to bounce back from last weekend’s shock defeat to Newcastle United when they play host to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Prior to that stunning result, Jurgen Klopp’s side had won seven of their last eight in all competitions, and talk of an unlikely title challenge was becoming increasingly prominent on the back pages. However, they’ve been brought back to earth with a bump and certainly shouldn’t allow themselves to get complacent against the Baggies.

Liverpool will hope to recover from last week’s defeat to Newcastle with a win over West Brom Sunday.

Tony Pulis’ side currently find themselves down in lower mid-table, albeit with a comfy buffer over the bottom three. As ever, the Baggies are on course to comfortably avoid relegation but achieve almost nothing in the process, courtesy of their rather industrious brand of football. However, they’re certainly capable of making life difficult for Liverpool: they’re unbeaten in their last three matches, having beaten Arsenal and held both of London’s other high-fliers, Tottenham and West Ham, to draws.
Key player: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
Liverpool will certainly be looking for a big performance from their star attacker Philippe Coutinho in this match. The Brazilian has been in fine form so far this season, chipping in with eight goals in all competitions. The inconsistency that once marred his game appears to be ever less marked, and he’s without doubt their most important creative force. Against a very well-organised West Brom, he’ll have to turn in a good performance.
Key matchup: Salomon Rondon vs. Liverpool's centre-backs
West Brom’s most dangerous attacker is Venezuelan record signing Salomon Rondon, who joined the club from Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer. He’s a very imposing figure, with his strength and aerial prowess making him an ideal striker for a Pulis team. He’s sure to give Liverpool’s centre-backs a tough afternoon at Anfield, and will be sniffing around for any chances on the counter-attack.
Liverpool injuries and suspensions
Out: Jon Flanagan, Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Mamadou Sakho (knee); Daniel Sturridge (hamstring). In doubt: Jordan Ibe (illness).
West Bromwich Albion injuries and suspensions
Out: Stephane Sessegnon (hamstring); Ben Foster (knee). In doubt: None.
Liverpool striker Sturridge has suffered another injury setback and will join their long-term absentees on the sidelines courtesy of a hamstring problem. However, Klopp will be hopeful to have Ibe back after a late fitness test.
West Brom will be still be without attacker Sessegnon and goalkeeper Foster, though otherwise should have a full-strength team available.
