A general recommendation: if you’d like to stay out of jail, don’t become president of a FIFA confederation. There could be 16 more people charged in the ongoing FIFA scandal on Thursday, and Alfredo Hawit and Juan Ángel Napout, the presidents of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, were among those arrested in Switzerland.

The last three presidents of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL have all been charged in the scandal and taken into custody. This is a bad look for the Copa América Centenario, which was created as part of the original scandal, but was allowed to go ahead. Ricardo Teixeira and Marco Polo del Nero, the former and current presidents of Brazilian football, were also charged.

The full list of new defendants isn’t available yet, but it will not include Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke or Michel Platini.
