Manchester United vs. Sunderland live stream: Game time, TV schedule and how to watch online

United need points to stay in the top four, Sunderland need points to stay out of the drop zone.

Every time it seems like Manchester United puts a foot or two forward, they find a way to trip over themselves, taking a stumbling step backwards. Such was the case last week when they lost to Swansea City for the second time this season, leaving United in fourth place, with a slim margin over three teams close on their tail for a Champions League spot.

They’ll now face a struggling Sunderland side on Saturday at Old Trafford, with both teams needing points for very different reasons.

Sunderland are somehow managing to stay just above the relegation fight, despite having only one a single match since Christmas. Gus Poyet has tinkered with his lineup, settling back into a 4-4-2 role around Jermain Defoe, but with limited success so far. The Black Cats have 25 points, just three points clear of a pack of three sides with 22.

The Swansea loss was costly not just because United dropped points. Striker Robin van Persie, who was playing his first game back after sitting out several, suffered an ankle injury that will sideline him for a few weeks at least. James Wilson will return to action for United tough, giving the attack a boost. Michael Carrick is back training as well, but his match fitness will probably limit him to a bench role.

For the Black Cats, Emanuele Giaccherini is likely done for the season after undergoing ankle surgery. Both Jack Rodwell and Billy Jones are close to a return, but neither will be available on Saturday.

The last times the teams met at Old Trafford in 2014, the Black Cats won 1-0.
