James Rodriguez to miss 2 months with broken foot

Real Madrid will be without their big summer signing for the next two months, thanks to an injury sustained in Wednesday's La Liga match against Sevilla. James Rodriguez broke a metatarsal in his right foot and is set to undergo surgery that will keep him out through March.

James scored in the 12th minute of the match, but had to go off shortly afterwards, and was replaced by Jese Rodriguez in the 27th minute.

The good news for Real Madrid is that their injury and suspension list isn't bad at the moment. Cristiano Ronaldo and Fabio Coentrao will both be available this weekend, while Pepe and Luka Modric are expected to return very shortly. New signing Lucas Silva is a big talent that can play in the holding role, which could allow Toni Kroos or Modric to slide into James' place. Isco is also in impeccable form, and Ancelotti might have been faced with dropping one of him or James anyway.

Still, Ancelotti would prefer to have James for this weekend’s Madrid derby and the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Schalke 04. The next edition of El Clasico is scheduled for the week of March 21, and James will struggle to get fit by that time.
