Thanks to Real Madrid’s big loss to Atlético Madrid Saturday, Barcelona are now in control of their own destiny in La Liga. The Blaugrana can’t go top with a win Sunday, but they’ll like their chances of doing so in the near future if they can pull off a win away to Athletic Bilbao.
Athletic Bilbao vs. Barcelona live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch La Liga online
The Blaugrana have an opportunity to make up ground in the title race after the Madrid Derby Saturday.

Athletic aren’t having a great season, but San Mames is always a tough place for anyone to play. They also appear to have bounced back from a nasty skid, winning their last two games in a row ahead of this contest.
Barcelona’s biggest question is still how to fit all of their big name forwards together in the same side. Luis Suarez has had his moments of true brilliance for the Blaugrana, but many fans will argue Lionel Messi looks more comfortable playing next to Pedro. Luis Enrique has also experimented with Suarez on the right or up top, with Messi trying both positions as well. Will the big three play together again, or will Suarez have to take a seat?
Key player - Aymeric Laporte (Athletic)
Aymeric Laporte is perhaps the most coveted young defender in world football, and he’ll have his hands full with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and whoever else Barcelona partners with them in the attack Sunday. If he’s up to the task, he might be able to choose the club he goes to, and Athletic can name their price.
Key matchup - Barca’s CBs vs. Aritz Aduriz
Don’t expect to see Athletic have lots of the ball, but they’re a very fast counter-attacking side when they get it, and Aritz Aduriz is the perfect center forward for their system. He’s not exceptional at anything, but he doesn’t have any deficiencies in his game, and he’s a very solid finisher. He scored twice in Athletic’s last game, and he won’t need many good chances to put one away.
Athletic Bilbao injuries and suspensions
Out: Andoni Iraola (suspended), Ander Iturraspe (knee). In doubt: Guillermo Fernández (ankle)
Barcelona injuries and suspensions
Out: Thomas Vermaelen (hamstring), Douglas (hamstring)
Barca’s two missing defenders probably wouldn’t be playing even if they were fit, while Iraola and Iturraspe are big misses for Athletic. Fernandez is still recovering from a sprained ankle and is likely to miss out, but could pass fit late.
