The United States’ played a domestic-based squad in Chile against a La Roja squad devoid of European-based players last week, but the results weren’t any different than the other games the Americans have played post-World Cup. Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad took an early lead, then fell apart after making experimental substitutions. Will they fare any differently against Panama Sunday?

Camp Cupcake concludes with a second game on home turf for the United States men’s national soccer team.

While Klinsmann is still going to do a lot of shuffling, he might abandon the 3-5-2 experiment after just one game. His players didn’t look comfortable in a back three, and he doesn’t exactly have the personnel for it anyway. This game should see the USMNT go back to a setup that’s more familiar to them.
Gyasi Zardes, Wil Trapp and Steve Birnbaum made their debuts in the first game of this camp, but four more uncapped players are still waiting for their debuts. Young goalkeeper Jon Kempin isn’t likely to play, but this game could mark the debuts of Matt Hedges, Dillon Serna, Shane O’Neill and Perry Kitchen, all defensively-oriented players. Luis Gil and Miguel Ibarra are the other extremely green players in this team, with one cap each to their names.
