DC United unveil white away kit, water remains wet

As far as kits go, the differences from team to team, color aside, can be few and far between. That is why it is so refreshing to see DC United doing something different in an MLS world dominated by adidas.

Kits are starting to look more and more like each other thanks companies like adidas, Nike, and Puma picking from templates and changing them from team to team. It is especially true in a league like MLS where every single team uses the same kit manufacturer.

United are no strangers to white alternate kits, having the color be a staple in the club’s rotation over the last few years. The 2015 campaign will see the club that finished first in the Eastern Conference wear white once again but with a not-so-subtle-twist.

The new kit is mostly white with red inserts on the sleeves and hem. The collar and adidas stripes that run the length of the sleeves, breaking only for the MLS logo, also match the color. The front of the shirt starts in that same solid red before quickly fading to white thanks to a series of horizontal bands that decrease in thickness on their way down.

The kit features a number of little touches that are unique to DC United including a supporter-inspired slogan on the neck tape that reads “VAMOS UNITED ESTA NOCHE TENEMOS QUE GANAR.” The back of the neck features the United eagle, Talon, silhouetted against the white backdrop. The crest on the front of the shirt is a black, white, and reversed version of the one that DC United normally wear and features a lenticular behind the eagle.
