Steven Gerrard gets red card 48 seconds after entering Manchester United match

This is some amazing leadership.

Liverpool, down a goal in a rivalry game against Manchester United, did exactly what you'd expect. They brought captain Steven Gerrard off the bench. He's more attacking than their usual starting midfielders, is a great set piece taker and has a record of scoring big goals against United.

He got a red card in 48 seconds for this nasty stamp on Ander Herrera.

This was, amazingly, the second bad challenge Gerrard made in less than 10 seconds. Right before this, he committed a clear yellow card offense, but the referee let play continue because United were still attacking. Then he went and did this, when he was already about to get booked. He’ll miss the next three games, at least.
